The movie a Month in the Country is a good adaptation of the novel. It follows the book’s structure and at the same time it does not fill the plot with slowing elements from the novel. Tom Birkin (the protagonist) of the novel is well portrayed by Colin Firth in the movie and his character is realistic. Although the movie does not have great special effects and astounding mise-en-scne, it is a movie worth watching in order to understand what the adaptation of a novel into a movie can become when the director applies most of the concepts (a well defined protagonist, a fight within himself, and a resolution at the end). In fact, I recommend this movie for anyone that enjoyed the novel and needs to get a visual image of the story. However, the viewer cannot expect to see the exact representation of the novel because a novel and a movie are different mediums. As a result, some very interesting elements from the novel are left out in the movie (the stoves symbolism for instance). Overall, the movie A Month in the Country is a movie worth watching.
