Near the end of World War II, Japan launched 9,000 balloon bombs over the Pacific Ocean, with the intent of causing explosions along North America's west coast. Though the "balloon offensive" is rarely discussed, these lofty weapons did in fact alight on mainland shores, and many of the bombs may yet be undiscovered. ON A WIND AND A PRAYER illuminates this largely untold story, exploring both the tactics and the aftermath of the long-range assault.
