All her life, from Puerto Rico to Boston, Elena's first language has been Spanish. Suddenly in the middle of a fight with her mother, Meche, over her not-so-ex-lover Tito, Elena loses her ability to understand or speak any Spanish-- except for a haunting song her long-missing father sang to her as a child. This mysterious loss causes much laughter and pain, and forces Elena, Meche, and Tito to re-examine what they mean to each other and how they communicate.
