Director Thomas Allen Harris embarks on a journey of reconciliation with the man who raised him, when he's confronted by the death of his stepfather. Pule Benjamin Leinaeng ("Lee") was an ANC (African National Congress) foot soldier and part of the first wave of South African exiles. Lee, with his eleven comrades, left in 1960 to broadcast to the world the brutality of the apartheid system, and to raise support for the ANC and its leaders, Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo. Mandela, meanwhile, is shown trying to balance being a leading member of the African National Congress with his weighty paternal duties.
