Life would seem ideal for Walt Samson, a teacher at a progressive grammar school with a devoted wife and two small girls. But when Walt meets Fiona, the lyrical world of his youth is reawakened, throwing into question the life he has chosen. Sensing growing unrest in her husband, Rachel arranges a secluded vacation just for the two of them at her parentsâ cottage home on a small New England island. Rachelâs attempt to rekindle the spark in their marriage is thwarted, however, when Walt invites his childhood friend Benjamin for a rare visit. The two menâs struggle to set aside their past grievances and get to know each other again is further complicated by the unexpected arrival of Rachelâs stunning friend Susan and her boyfriend, Doug.
