Christina is a typical Argentinean teenager but she is not who she thinks she is. Her life is suddenly uprooted when she is plucked out of class at the summons of a judge and told the couple she knows as her parents had in fact adopted her. In the early 80s, her biological parents "disappeared" for criticizing the political regime of the time and their surviving relatives, including Christina's grandmother, have spent years trying to track down the child. A judge directs her to live with her biological family as her adoption--or appropriation, as it is chillingly called--had no legal basis. On the contrary, it may have been the result of an appalling crime. Not knowing who to trust, Christina begins an investigation of her own in order to find out the truth. The young girl meets others like herself and discovers the real-life horrors of Argentina's relatively recent history and the nightmare that claimed tens of thousands of lives during the "dirty war."
