Johnny and Marco Toma, two Italian-Canadian brothers, are living with their anxious mother and their mentally deficient sister, Celia. Johnny is trying to sort out his life while supervising a restaurant and sleeping with the boss's daughter-in-law, and Marco is doing his best just to stay in school. All this is compounded by Celia's penchant for relieving her own loneliness by sneaking out of the house, stealing the neighbor's children, and bringing them home with her.
