In 1947, the Muslim minority and Sikh majority in the Indian village of Mano Majra are coexisting peacefully. However, the violence in the rest of India reaches them too, and army occupation forces Muslims to emigrate to Pakistan. In the midst of this ethnic and religious turmoil, a gangster Hindu Sikh wanted for murder falls in love with a Muslim girl.
