For the people in Hong Kong - a British Crown Colony until July 1, 1997, when it falls under the Special Administrative Region of China, life is uncertain. Three friends, Paul, Peter and Mary have to make big decisions. Paul, young, good looking, successful yet humble, he has all the things other men may envy and women admire. But the whole world suddenly came tumbling down when his business partner fled to China and left him to pay up the debt of 800 thousand dollars or go to court. Peter, an American expatriate who has worked in Hong Kong for 4 years, has been summoned to return to the American office. His Chinese girlfriend has decided to stay in Hong Kong. Mary, an independent woman with a career has just been proposed by her lawyer boyfriend. She is confused and is afraid of losing her independence. Mary decides to enjoy the day, celebrate her birthday with Paul and Peter.
