In 1980, Arthur McDuffie, an African American community worker was brutally kicked, beaten and clubbed to death by Miami police. His murder mobilized protests in two black neighborhoods troubled by economic underdevelopment ans numerous previous incidents of police brutality. Upon the verdict of the police's acquittal, the enraged community erupted before the nation via television.
