In 1984, the East German filmmaker Sibylle Schonemann was imprisoned for the "crime" of having requested an exit visa. A year later, she was freed and exiled to the West. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Schonemann returned to her former prison and confronted the various individuals who participated in her incarceration.
