One of the first benefit concerts that took place in response to President George W. Bush's declaration of the "War on Terrorism," A Night of Ferocious Joy was organized by the Artists Network of Refuse & Resist. This inspiring hip-hop concert took place in 2002 at Hollywood's historic Palace Theater, and this record of the event intersperses performances by some of hip-hop's finest voices with backstage interviews with the artists. These include Blackalicious, Mystic, Ozomatli, Dilated Peoples, the Coup, Jerry Quickley, Hassan Hakmoun, Robbie Conal, Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, The Great Voices Of Ugmaa, Saul Williams, and many others. The artists talk candidly about their experiences and opinions about the current climate of fear and government oppression.
