Classic Mexican star Dolores Del Rio plays dual roles in the dark psychodrama LA OTRA (THE OTHER). Sisters Maria and Magdalena have been estranged for many years following Magdalena's seduction of Maria's sweetheart when both were still young. They reunite for the funeral of Magdalena's husband, and Maria, who toils in the modest occupation of manicurist, is surprised and awestruck by her sister's wealth. Angered by the fact that everything has gone right for the manipulative and wicked Magdalena, Maria begins to concoct a plot for revenge. Little does she realize that it will set her on a course that may ultimately make her no better than her scheming sister. LA OTRA is a dark, noirish drama that gives Del Rio the chance to demonstrate her acting ability, and it was nominated for seven 1946 Ariel Awards, winning for Best Screenplay.
