After the death of his 10-year-old dog Popee, film director Soo-hyun (Korean pop star Hyeon-jin Baek) decides to cope with his grief by making a documentary about his beloved pet. Soo-hyun's project soon expands from the personal to the universal as he begins interviewing other dog owners about their own experiences, resulting in a heartwarming drama that reveals the extent to which animals often serve as a conduit for human emotions. Though it is, in fact, a fiction film, POPEE often plays out like a documentary with strong elements of autobiography from South Korean writer/director Ji-hyun Kim.
