International yoga instructor Juliana Afram worked with the Pilates Coach Germany institute to create this holistic program, which aims to strengthen the body and mind. Appropriate for beginners and intermediate students of Pilates, the exercises here combine standard fitness techniques with dance, yoga, breathing methods, and physical therapy. Part one of this workout series focuses on traditional mat Pilates, and emphasizes the importance of stretching for strengthening of the pelvic, abdominal, and back muscles. Afram clearly outlines each move, illustrating how Pilates can help create a healthy balance between breathing and muscular movements, which will result in increased balance; control over one's body; and a sense of relaxation.
