Unfortunately Barnabe has been marked for death by his boss, the local mob boss, and Pedro winds up saving his life when he picks him up. Pedro eventually finds out, to his disappointment, the extent of police corruption in his department when he himself becomes a target for the mob through his protection of Barnabe.
