Michael Konig and Gunther Kaufmann star in this bitterly comic film from German auteur R.W. Fassbinder as two young Germans without any prospects for the future who are utterly bored with their meager existence. However, when they discover a legend about hidden treasure in Peru's Rio das Mortes section, they begin a plan to go treasure hunting, providing them the prospect of both great riches and great adventure. Unfortunately, Hanna, Michael's fiancee, regards their obsession as a ridiculous pipe dream and threatens violence if they seriously intend to leave.
