A story of love and work in the suburban sprawl of early 20th century America, A REAL JOB lightly takes on ideas of work and its relation to self-worth and romantic value. John St. Clair is a 38 year old video store clerk who is haplessly trudging through life when he meets Denise, the girl of his dreams. In the hopes of making a life with her, John quits his beloved video store job and becomes a slave to the corporate world. However, John finds that not only is the 9 to 5 cubicle lifestyle sapping his creative energy, it is also tearing him away from time with Denise.
