Two killers role into a small town and kill a local gas-station attendant known as "The Swede" (Burt Lancaster), who seems to have been expecting their visit. An insurance investigator (Edmond O'Brien) on the case digs up the crime, betrayal, and involvement of a glamorous femme fatale (Ava Gardner) behind the ex-fighter's death. THE KILLERS is a classic noir--one of the quintessential works from Robert Siodmak, a noted master of the genre. Propelled by Lancaster's sizzling film debut and based on a story by Ernest Hemingway, this 1946 film is the earliest (and best, according to many) of several international adaptations.
