Jack Hanaway is an cocktail pianist and aspiring author of crime novels who has a mean-streak. One evening, a snide comment nearly costs him his job at the Blue Cat Lounge, a Long Island watering hole. Only the interference of Fred Moore, the owner, saves his job. Fred's wife is Vera, a wealthy woman who he married for the money. Fred is not unfaithful, but Vera has hired as private eye to watch him because she knows he is attracted to Vicki, a lounge singer who purrs torch songs. The PI is a friend of Jack's who asks him to help set up Fred by having Vicki seduce him in front of a hidden camera.
