In this buddy-cop drama, Sammo Hung plays Pierre Lau, an overweight officer whose frequent blunders land him under the supervision of a handsome, know-it-all, by-the-book recruit, Tang Chuen-shek (Takeshi Kaneshiro). In between romantic hijinks with several female cops, including the fetching Yau-ching (Kathy Chow), the officers become entangled with two gangs, leading to a daring raid on the police station and an explosive martial arts battle in a warehouse. Hung's Peking Opera "brother" and frequent collaborator Yuen Biao has a part as Customs officer Wong Yuk-man. Though noticeably older, especially compared to the fresh-faced Kaneshiro, Hung and Biao haven't lost a step, as midway through the film they have an engaging fight against each other. The ending of the film truly captures the essence of the film's title: In a very strange plot twist, Kaneshiro and Biao don blackface, providing unique insight into the sociological imagination of the Hong Kong film industry. Hung Tin-ming and Hung Tin-cheung, Hung's sons, also worked on the project.
