Just before the German invasion of Paris a Jewish refugee tries to escape the city in a car, and along the way picks up an anti-Semitic Pole and his girlfriend - also fleeing. They eventually are caught, somehow talk their way into freedom, and hide away in a castle, where the Pole begins to find all his anti-Semitic feelings dissolving as he grows closer to his new found friend.
