Bobby Logan (Kris Kristofferson) and Ernie Wyatt (Treat Williams) are burnt-out Texas border patrolmen in danger of losing their jobs when they find a 1960s-era jeep buried in the desert along with human remains, a rifle, and $800,000 in cash. Cynical Logan wants to take the money and run, but idealistic Wyatt persuades him to conduct a secret investigation first. The partners' detective work soon leads them to startling evidence connecting the jeep to the JFK assassination--with federal agents hot on their trail and eager to do anything it takes to keep the discovery a secret. This taut, little-seen political thriller is bolstered by Tangerine Dream's moody, atmospheric score and a strong supporting cast that includes Rip Torn, Kevin Conway, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, and Jean Smart.
