William Thacker is a shy London bookseller who has never had much luck with women. When Hollywood star Anna Scott wanders into his shop, he is transfixed, but doesn't expect to see her again. But coincidence brings them together again, and soon the unlikely couple are falling in love, and must deal with the problems of a relationship between a star and an ordinary guy.
