What's The Story
Money is already tight for suburban parents Arthur and Norma Lewis when Arthur gets some devastating news from his boss at NASA. It's beginning to look like the family will have to pack up and leave their idyllic neighborhood, when out of the blue a mysterious box arrives on their doorstep. When they open it, a horribly disfigured man arrives and explains that they can use the box to end their money problems forever...at the cost of a stranger's life. By the time their ordeal is over, you'll want to return all of your holiday boxes unopened.
Three Good Reasons
- 1Richard Kelly, creator of the cult hit film "Donnie Darko," once again puts on the writer/director hat, bringing us a chilling tale that combines popular appeal with surreal artistry.
- 2 The beautiful Cameron Diaz has been trying her hand at more serious roles lately, and this thriller really puts her through her paces as the morally conflicted Norma
- 3Curious about the inner workings of NASA? A number of the film's scenes are actually shot at NASA's Langley Research center in Virginia (where Kelly's father worked in the '70s), giving it a special touch of authenticity.
Bet You Didn't Know
Richard Matheson, author of "What Dreams May Come" and "I Am Legend," as well as the short story upon which this film is based, was an important influence on the writing careers of Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Chris Carter of "The X-Files." In fact, Carter named the Senator who watched over Agent Mulder after Matheson.
