What's The Story
We all had to read it in English class: the epic poem telling the story of the hero-king Beowulf who, avenging his father, comes to the land of Heorot seeking to destroy the demon beast Grendel. Vengeance works both ways, though, so when Beowulf defeats Grendel, it is Grendel's mother who then comes after Beowulf. These are no ordinary clashes, with gruesome battles and unexpected outcomes. Throw in a dragon for good measure, and you can see why this story has stuck around for over 1000 years.
Three Good Reasons
- 1Director Robert Zemeckis has improved the techniques he first used in The Polar Express to create an even more visually astounding epic.
- 2A screenplay by graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and Pulp Fiction co-creator Roger Avary guarantees a unique take on the oldest piece of English literature.
- 3A virtual Angelina Jolie in three dimensions. It's a brave new world, indeed.
Bet You Didn't Know
Roger Avary wanted to write the screenplay somewhere cold and distant to capture the essence of Beowulf's environment. But his co-writer Neil Gaiman, who is English, disagreed entirely. So instead they spent several weeks in sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico working on the script and their tans.
