What's The Story
13-year-old Briony Tallis and her family live a life of exquisite privilege in the English countryside in 1935. The idyllic lifestyle affords the girl an imagination perfectly suited to the writer she hopes to be. But Briony's creative mind also makes her misconstrue the actions of her older sister Cecilia and her lover Robbie Turner, the housekeeper's son. When Briony accuses Robbie of a crime he didn't commit, the repercussions continue to haunt them all. As time passes -- through World War II and beyond -- Briony faces the impossible challenge of making things right again.
Three Good Reasons
- 1Keira Knightley continues to be captivating on screen no matter what the time period (even if this movie doesn't involve swashbuckling pirates).
- 2Based on the award-winning novel by Ian McEwan, which was named one of the 100 best novels of the 20th century by Time magazine.
- 3Director Joe Wright brought back the Oscar-nominated composer, costume designer, and art direction team who worked with him on 2005's Pride & Prejudice.
Bet You Didn't Know
In the 16 movies Keira Knightley has made, only six are set in modern times. Even her first film role was set "a long time ago." It was
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phanton Menace. She has two movies scheduled for 2008,
The Edge of Love (set in the early 20th century) and
The Duchess (about an 18th century aristocrat).
