Synopsis:
The legendary "loot of a thousand worlds" inspires an intergalactic treasure hunt when fifteen-year-old Jim Hawkins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) stumbles upon a map to the greatest pirate trove in the universe. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" this updated version follows Jim's fantastic journey across a parallel universe as cabin boy aboard a glittering space galleon. After stumbling across a dying pirate on the run from a band of cutthroats, Jim and his friend Dr. Delbert Doppler (David Hyde Pierce) realize they're in possesion of a map that seems to lead to the fabled "Treasure Planet." On a voyage financed by Doppler, Jim signs on with the crew of the RLS Legacy, under the leadership of the beautiful cat-like alien Captain Amelia (Emma Thompson). Befriended by the ship's charismatic cyborg (part man, part machine) cook John Silver, Jim blossoms under his guidance, and shows the makings of a fine spacer as he and the alien crew battle supernovas, black holes and ferocious space storms. But even greater dangers lie ahead when Jim discovers that his trusted friend Silver is actually a scheming pirate with mutiny in mind. Confronted with a betrayal that cuts deep to his soul, Jim is transformed from boy to man as he finds the strength to face down the mutineers and discovers a "treasure" greater than he had ever imagined. In the explosive finale to the story, both Jim and Silver are tested in ways beyond their wildest imagination and their futures literally hang in the balance.More Movie Info
