This week, "The Men Who Stare at Goats" starring George Clooney opens in theaters nationwide. And however critics and audiences react to the flick, one thing's for sure: it really does have a memorable name.
A great title can make a movie. After all, the only reason "Snakes on a Plane" attracted Samuel L. Jackson and became a focus of overwhelming internet hype was because of its ridiculously awesome title. On the other hand, "The Shawshank Redemption" proved to be such a puzzling moniker that moviegoers stayed away. It was only after the film was released on video that it found an audience and became recognized as a classic.
Here's a list of some of the weirdest movie titles ever, divided into specific categories. Sometimes they're too long, sometimes they're too short, but they all make a statement -- even the ones that are completely unpronounceable.
RUN-ON SENTENCES
Titles that could have used an editor.
STRANGE COMMANDS
Movies that seem to demand you do something.
A CLAUSE TOO FAR
Too much punctuation, too many phrases.
TITLE = PLOT
So self-explanatory you might not need to see the film.
INSCRUTABLE PHRASES
It doesn't make any sense even after you see the movie.
HUH?
One-word titles that say nothing.
