FACT TWO: The Winner Takes It All
The original stage musical of Mamma Mia! premiered in London on April 6, 1999. Today there are 13 current productions of the show, and it has been performed in eleven different languages. It recently passed The Producers to be the 18th-longest running show on Broadway, and it holds the distinction of being the longest running musical in both Las Vegas and Moscow.

FACT THREE: Thank You for the Music
All of the songs in the show were written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus and originally performed by their group ABBA. The band took its name from the first initials of the guys and their bandmates/girlfriends Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog. It was also a joking reference to a fish cannery in their native Sweden also named "Abba." In 1974 they became the first Swedish act to win the Eurovision Song Contest with their song Waterloo. The band broke up in 1982 after their romantic relationships fizzled out.

FACT FOUR: Dancing Queen
Theatrical producer Judy Craymer first formed the idea of an ABBA musical when she worked with Benny and Bjorn on the musical Chess in the mid-1980s. The original concept album of "Chess" was a big success with it's hit single One Night in Bangkok, but the failure of the stage production made the songwriters reluctant to repeat the experience. It took Craymer over a decade to convince the pair to agree to another show based on their songs.
