| Batman in the Comics |
| Orphaned as a child after his parents were murdered in a mugging gone bad, Bruce Wayne decides to take on the guise of a big bat and strike back at the criminal element. He doesn't have superpowers, just a keen detective's mind, martial arts skills, and a wide assortment of Bat-gadgets. With the help of his butler Alfred and his young ward Robin, he fights to rid Gotham City of crazed villains like the Joker, the Riddler, and Mr. Freeze. |
| Changes for the Screen |
| • |
Bruce Wayne's parents are killed by the Joker, not some anonymous thug like in the comics. |
| • |
Dick Grayson is already fully grown when he becomes Robin. |
| • |
Instead of being Commissioner Gordon's daughter, Batgirl is Alfred's niece. |

"Where does he get those wonderful toys?" | Batman The Dark Knight crashes through the skylight, grabs Vicki Vale, launches a wire across the room, and zips away from the Joker's goons. |
