POV, the great PBS program that spotlights documentary films, decided to put together a map they've called "The United States of Documentaries." (Thanks, Vulture.) Its premise is simple: They selected the best documentary set in each of the 50 states. Our home state of Illinois is, of course, represented by the magnificent "Hoop Dreams." New York gets "Man on Wire," and California's is "Dogtown and Z-Boys," although we'd be tempted to cheat and go with "Gimme Shelter." All 50 are listed here: It's a cornucopia of smart picks and good Netflix recommendations.
