There will be trolls. Magnet Releasing
Fear not: Hollywood is on the case. On the same day as writer-director André Ovredal's film makes its U.S. debut, Deadline revealed that there's going to be an American remake. It's being produced by one of our nation's film critics' favorite punching bags: Chris Columbus. Yes, the man who directed the first two (bad) "Harry Potter" movies and "I Love You, Beth Cooper" and "Mrs. Doubtfire" will be overseeing the American "Troll Hunter." This seems like a perfectly reasonable pairing of producer and material.
Though Ovredal's "Troll Hunter" probably won't make much dough in the States, you can see why American producers would snatch it up. The movie fits nicely into two Hollywood trends. The first is an interest in adapting any and all Scandinavian horror/thrillers. ("Let the Right One In" and "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" both hailed from Sweden.) The other is found-footage horror movies. When even Barry Levinson is making a found-footage horror movie, you know it's a popular genre. If they make their "Troll Hunter" remake in 3D, they'll have a hat trick.
