That Mystery Nicolas Cage-Nicole Kidman Movie Is Coming to Toronto

Last month, we were as shocked as you to discover that Oscar-winners Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman were going to be starring in a movie that was coming out in October. Called "Trespass" and directed by Joel Schumacher, the film has no advance buzz, no nothing: The assumption was that it was being quietly buried so as to keep the general public from ever discovering it even existed. But today, the Toronto Film Festival announced that they'd be hosting the film's world premiere. That's not how you bury a movie, people.

The Playlist found the movie's Facebook page, which contains a bunch of publicity photos and a plot description of "Trespass":

When cold-blooded criminals led by Elias (Ben Mendelsohn) and Jonah (Cam Gigandet), break into his mansion, Kyle Miller (Nicolas Cage) must battle his own demons before he can save his wife (Nicole Kidman) and daughter (Liana Liberato).

The Facebook page indicates this film is opening on October 14 before heading to DVD on November 1. That is incredibly fast and normally indicates a "no confidence" vote from a distributor, in this case Millennium Films. So why even bother with a gala premiere at a major film festival? It's definitely weird and makes you wonder if there was some contractual agreement that stipulated a festival unveiling. Regardless, we feel pretty confident "Trespass" won't be factoring into our Oscar prognosticating. But it's definitely a shoo-in for the year's most bizarre high-profile vanishing acts.
