You May Not Want to Hold Your Breath for That ‘Crow’ Remake

Back when it was first announced that there would be a remake of "The Crow," we shook our heads, although we understood why it was happening. In case you hadn't noticed, comic book movies are pretty popular, and, hey, "The Crow" is based on a comic book. But on the other hand, with all the tragedy surrounding the 1994 original -- star Brandon Lee died on set from an accidental gunshot -- it was one of those properties that seemed to have a dark cloud over it. That sort of thing doesn't stop determined producers, but maybe it should. First they lost their star. Now they may have lost their director.

Early this summer, Relativity lined up Bradley Cooper to play the lead ... except then he decided against it, citing scheduling difficulties. But, no worries, they've got a director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who was coming off "28 Weeks Later" and the forthcoming Clive Owen horror film "Intruders." Well, Twitch reports today that he's vamoosing, too, with there being a possibility he'll do a "Highlander" film instead.

There's no official word yet, so put this post under the "bad news rumor" category. But if it is true, it's just the latest obstacle for this film about a recently murdered rock star who comes back to get revenge. Last summer, the movie seemed to be all set to go with director Stephen Norrington, who hadn't made a movie since the huge debacle of 2003's "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." Then songwriter-screenwriter Nick Cave was brought on board to rework the script. Then, they both were out and Fresnadillo and new writer Alex Tse were in. It's hard to keep track. At this point, they may want to just covert the old film to 3D and re-release that. Might make more money than a remake. And it'll certainly get here quicker.
