The Playlist pointed out something today that had occurred to us as well: Is Jason Sudeikis the hottest film comic at the moment? Yes, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but the man whose day job is still "Saturday Night Live" has been busy of late doing movies, co-starring in "Going the Distance" and "The Bounty Hunter" and getting set to appear in "Hall Pass," "Horrible Bosses" and "Movie 43." And when you factor in his walk-ons for hip TV shows like "30 Rock," "Portlandia" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," it's pretty clear casting agents have decided he's meant for bigger things.

Though it's not quite as high profile as those other film roles, another Sudeikis project has just found distribution. Sony Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn will be releasing "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy," an ensemble comedy about a group of friends who decide to say goodbye to Sudeikis' Hampton summer house by having one big orgy. It's the feature debut of writer-directors Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory, and the film will also star Leslie Bibb, Lucy Punch, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Martin Starr, David Koechner, and Sudeikis's old "SNL" cohort Will Forte.

Sudeikis' ascension to film stardom (if it happens) seems like a no-brainer, especially in retrospect. Beyond being funny in a normal-guy sort of way, he's a handsome gent, making him ideal for romantic comedies. Actually, it's sort of perfect that he's teamed up with Owen Wilson for "Hall Pass": He definitely has the potential to be the next bromance star in the vein of an Owen Wilson or (thinking of Wilson's "Wedding Crashers" co-star) Vince Vaughn. And unlike a lot of "SNL" cast members-turned-film stars -- Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell -- Sudeikis doesn't need an oversized personality to win over an audience. That could help his longevity, but it might make him seem a little too generic to break out. But in the next several months, we'll definitely be seeing a lot of him on the big screen: These things may sort themselves out on their own.
