An Insurance Company Life Expectancy Calculator Helps Us Predict Who Would Die Last If “Contagion” Didn’t Kill Them

One of the most-praised aspects of Steven Soderbergh's "Contagion" is the film's willingness to kill off Big Time Movie Stars without batting an eye. We've seen the film, so we know lives and who bites it, and in which order. But we try to live in a happy world without bat-pig viruses. Where these movie stars would be free to roam the earth, virus-free, for as long as the sweet Lord would let them.

Or, more accurately: The National Association of Insurance Commissioners, who have put together the simplest online life expectancy calculator that we could find. (There are much better ones, if you really want to find out when you're dying. But who wants to know that?) All the NAoIC calculator requires is an age and a gender. And we want to find out, in a perfect world, how long these "Contagion" stars would live. We don't know the medical history of Marion Cotillard's grandmother, so this is the best we could do.

So, when do these stars die, in a virus-free world? Come along with us, for the NAoIC Challenge!

Marion Cotillard (35, female): 2058.
Bryan Cranston (55, male): 2036.
Matt Damon (40, male): 2050.
Jennifer Ehle (41, female): 2052.
Laurence Fishburne (50, male): 2040.
Elliot Gould (73, male): 2022.
Jude Law (38, male): 2051.
Demetri Martin (38, male): 2051
Gwyneth Paltrow (38, female): 2055.
Kate Winslet (35, female): 2058.

So now you know what we lost in "Contagion." What could have been. Dr. Sanjay Gupta is also in the film, but Dr. Sanjay Gupta is immortal and thus will never die.

(Hey, it's a Friday.)
