George Lucas Hooks Us With Teaser of ‘Star Wars’ Deleted Scenes

There's no point in going through all the ways in which George Lucas has betrayed the fans who grew up watching the original "Star Wars" trilogy. You know it, we know it, let's move on. But we can't, partly because the guy won't stop repackaging and licensing his moneymaking machine. So there's really no reason why anything coming out of Skywalker Ranch should tempt us. And then we saw a brief montage of deleted scenes from the original trilogy ... damn it, he got us again.

Entertainment Weekly is at Comic-Con and saw a brief clip of original-trilogy scenes that didn't make it into the films. The video ad only offers small snippets of these scenes as a way to promote the Blu-Ray package of all six movies that will be coming out in September. And, really, there's nothing here that should make any reasonable person excited: a shot of a Wampa, Han Solo fighting Stormtroopers, Admiral Akbar in an X-Wing. But even the snippets are enough to reignite the love we had for the original trilogy. We're not proud to admit that.

Not that it means we're going to shell out for the actual Blu-Ray collection. Like all the other doodads including in this lavish set, deleted scenes tend to be as worthwhile as the "bonus tracks" included on an album's re-release: "Oh, great, now I've got three cruddy demo versions of 'God Only Knows.' My life is complete." Honestly, we're fine with just watching this ad a few times with the John Williams score. It conjures up all the wonder and excitement we felt a long time ago from the original trilogy. For about 50 seconds, we got it back.
