“Dream House” Joins the Please Ignore Our Terrible Movie Club

We hinted at this last week, and now it's officially official: Amazingly, "Dream House," directed by Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan, starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz, a big-budget studio haunted house movie, is not being screened early for critics. Yes, our Please Ignore Our Terrible Movie club is getting a new member, the second in as many days.

As always, our regular disclaimer: You shouldn't, and surely don't, care whether a film critic's life is inconvenienced by a film studio not showing a film early. Lord knows we have it cushy enough already. You should care, though, that not showing a film early to critics is a sure-fire sign that the studio is trying to hide the film from the public as long as possible, so that you might be more likely to be suckered into buying a ticket to a movie they know stinks. This is simply a public service!)

The members of the Please Ignore Our Terrible Movie club so far:

*** "Shark Night 3-D." Metascore: 24.
*** "Apollo 18." Metascore: 21.
*** "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star." Metascore: 9.
*** "Courageous." Metascore: TBA.

Thus, we heretofore formally induct "Dream House" into The Projector's Please Ignore Our Terrible Movie club. We still hold out hope that they're hiding the movie because of some crazy plot twist they don't want to spoil ... but we sort of doubt it. We'll probably go see this anyway. Honestly, the only thing that makes sense is that Sheridan, as an experiment, just decided to put all the frames in random order.

So! Welcome, "Dream House," to the Please Ignore Our Terrible Movie club. We have no idea why you're here, but we hope you'll stay a while.
