Warner Bros.We know we're relatively new to this movie writin' game, but we honestly don't remember any sort of IMAX preview of "The Dark Knight" back in late 2007. That really happened? According to slashfilm, it did: That Christmas, big IMAX screens showed the opening bank robbery sequence, one of the many great scenes in film and a perfect primer for what the audience is in for the rest of the way. We're not sure we would have wanted to see that months before the film came out. But that might just be us. We still like to listen to albums in order, too.
Anyway, some more details are coming in about the 10-some-odd minutes of IMAX "The Dark Knight Rises" footage that'll be shown before "Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol: Too Many Colons," in December, and Warner Bros. is making it clear that only the highest-quality IMAX screens will be selected.
AMC Theaters' blog had the info before taking it down, but here's what they had initially:
The six minute Dark Knight Rises prologue footage will only be shown on the higher resolution 70mm IMAX screens. Not the digital IMAX screens. Locations haven't been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for an update on AMC Theatre locations that will be showing the prologue Dark Knight Rises footage at a 70mm IMAX screen nearest you.
It's gotta be the 70mm IMAX, huh. You know, there aren't very many of those. (Here's a rough listing of 70mm screens; look for the IMAX marker, 'cause it needs that too.) Pity the poor person who just wants to go see "Ghost Protocol;" they're gonna have to fight for tickets with those needing their Batman fix.
