The first minute we heard about Baz Lurhmann's decision to do an adaptation of "The Great Gatsby," we changed into our favorite pair of jeans. The whole concept of the movie is so misguided -- it's an unfilmable novel in the first place, and Luhrmann seems like the uniquely worst person alive to capture anything resembling subtlety, let alone nuance -- that we kept waiting for someone to come to their senses and back slowly away. But then Carey Mulligan was cast alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, and Luhrmann started chattering about making it in 3-D, and we just assumed the snowball was rolling down the hill, with the avalanche hitting in about 500 days. But now Luhrmann might be coming to his senses.

Vulture talked to Luhrmann at the DGA Awards of the weekend, and he confessed the project might not be nearly as far along as everyone thought.

"I gotta make a decision in three days' time ... whether to do it or not," he told Vulture. "I think I've been a bit shaded out

because I want everything to be perfectly positioned on it. There will be news by the end of the week."

You have three days to change your mind, Baz, to make the right decision and save yourself career suicide and the rest of us an intense amount of pain. Three days, man. Plenty of time. If you need any help coming to your decision, know that the definitive film adaptation has already been released. Look:

See? There's no point! It's already perfect!
