Ron Galella/WireImage.comIt's difficult to imagine how the drowning death of Natalie Wood would have been covered and discussed if it happened today, rather than 30 years ago. On one hand, the facts of the case -- the infamous "mystery woman" calling out for help and the lackadaisical "we're coming to get you" in response, the boat captain's shaky story, that everyone on the boat (including Christopher Walken) was so intoxicated -- would have surely been sussed out and dissected in a far more out-in-the-open fashion; everyone involved would have talked to Barbara Walters or Diane Sawyer or Bob Costas or TMZ within days of the incident. On the other hand, all the mystery of the case would be gone, and it would be much more disposable; by Christmas, we would have moved on to Herman Cain or Jerry Sandusky or whatever the hot story of the moment that month was. People would be bored with it over Twitter in a fortnight.

Elisabetta A. Villa/WireImage• If you're looking for the next "Harry Potter" or "Hunger Games," keep your eye on "Ender's Game," which is based on Orson Scott Card's award-winning sci-fi novel. Yesterday, Summit found their Andrew "Ender" Wiggin: It'll be 14-year-old Asa Butterfield, who's about to become a star (we assume) after "Hugo" hits theaters. These are pretty heady times for a guy who wasn't even born when the book came out. [Deadline]Denouement: Who Is Today’s James L. Brooks?

Ron Galella/WireImage.comI'm still a little bummed about the news from this morning that James L. Brooks' 20-year production deal with Sony has been canceled. Now, this is a dumb thing to be bummed out about. First off: One should not let the cancellation of a mutually financially beneficial contract bum one out. This is just money, after all; James L. Brooks is gonna be just fine. (He certainly seems fine on his constantly entertaining Twitter.) No, it's not the particulars of the deal that makes me sad. It's that I grew up thinking James L. Brooks was the dominant creative force in movies, and now he's sort of being discarded like an outdated magazine subscription. (Kids, people used to "subscribe" to "magazines" that were on "paper.")Sorry, Folks, Elmo Wasn’t Available for ‘The Muppets’

John Lamparski/WireImageWe'll be doing our review for "The Muppets" tomorrow, so we've been careful not to say anything about the Disney film on the site until then. But apparently there's one secret that's OK to let out of the bag: Elmo's not in the movie. This isn't exactly a scandal -- he wasn't part of the original "Muppet Show," and, hey, he had his own movie this year -- but it may surprise some people because he's easily one of the most popular Muppet characters. Well, it turns out the Disney reboot wasn't trying to shun him -- it was Elmo who shunned them.We Love the Original ‘Titanic’ Trailer
By Tim Grierson | The Projector – Thu, Nov 17, 2011 6:00 PM ESTBy now, you've probably seen the trailer for the upcoming super-fancy 3D re-release of "Titanic." It's sorta what you expect: lots of shots of iconic moments from the film, all treated with the prestige and grandeur usually reserved for presidential inaugurations or the final night of "American Idol." So, yeah, it's a bit stuffy -- and it made us curious to check out a trailer for the film before it opened in December 1997. There it is at the top of this post. It's kind of amazing.

Lions Gate FilmsTyler Perry probably has to deal with a certain amount of criticism on a daily basis. Movie reviewers have never warmed to his films, even though they do pretty good business, and he's also had to endure attacks from his filmmaking peers -- particularly Spike Lee, who accused him of all types of terrible things. But apparently that all was dwarfed in comparison to the grief he's been getting ever since it was announced that Kim Kardashian would be co-starring in his new film, "The Marriage Counselor." But he's sick of it! So sick of it that he took to his website to explain his rationale. Basically he wants to make sure young people see his new movie -- and all young people love Kim Kardashian, right?‘The Descendants’ Is The Projector’s Movie of the Week

Momentum PicturesThe Projector isn't one of those sites that takes endless pleasure in kicking people when they're down. Superstar careers can go south so quickly for so many reasons that it's just plain mean to mock a person's downward spiral. So believe us when we tell you that we take no joy in discovering that Nicolas Cage's new movie, "Justice," is opening overseas before it ever comes to the U.S. In fact, there's no guarantee it'll ever come here. Just when you think Cage's standing can't get worse ... it does. The Strange Man Watching ‘Julie & Julia’ Every Day for a Year

Sony PicturesWe continuously forget that "Julie & Julia" was not simply a biopic of Julia Child. Nope, there's a whole other plot in that movie, featuring Amy Adams as a writer trying to figure out her life by doing a different Julia Child recipe everyday. We don't remember a single second of that storyline. We only remember Meryl Streep having the time of her life playing Julia Child. You have to be a particularly empty subplot to have Amy Adams in it and have us still forget about you.‘Raiding the Lost Ark’ Will Be the Only ‘Raiders’ Documentary You’ll Ever Need
By Tim Grierson | The Projector – Thu, Nov 17, 2011 12:59 PM ESTLondon editor Jamie Benning is making a nice name for himself as a one-man oral historian of blockbuster movies. He's already done great video documentaries of the original "Star Wars" trilogy -- compiling two-hour-plus running commentaries consisting of previous interviews from cast members and crew -- and now he's turned his attention to "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It's not done yet, but Benning has put up the first 17 minutes of "Raiding the Lost Ark" that cover the brilliant opening sequence. Keep this up, Benning, and you may put film schools out of business.
