April: Your Movie Month In Review

Your April winner, kind of. Universal
Your April winner, kind of. Universal

It's already obvious that this is the month of "Fast Five," with its massive opening and nationwide inception of sexual fantasies involving The Rock, Vin Diesel and an old T-shirt of Paul Walker's. But if we're gonna do this monthly movie wrap-up, we have to declare a deadline for the top-10 grossing films somewhere, just as an organizing principle. So: End of the month. Cutoff. Sorry, "Fast Five:" You'll have to take solace in passing "Hop," oh, tomorrow. Anyway, it's time to do

our monthly look back -- check the bottom of this post for the archive -- at the films of the past month, the ones we saw, the ones we loved, the ones we missed. Welcome to the wonkishness.

What We Learned This Month

Leitch: When you start following a film critic you admire on Twitter, you will ultimately find out something about them that will make you wish you didn't. Namely: That they're a bit of a cranky, self-important boor. Sometimes we hate Twitter.
Grierson:

No matter how long I've been doing this, I still get excited by the beginning of summer movie season. It always reminds me of a school year being over and going with your friends to all the big, loud, exciting blockbusters in an air-conditioned theater. Other critics sorta dread this season: I remain weirdly optimistic I'm gonna see some great stuff.

We have such hope for May! See you then.
