The Independent Spirit Awards are known for their more relaxed atmosphere, but Shailene Woodley took laid back to the next level before the ceremony today. Most stars opt for more casual attire when attending these awards, since they are held near the beach in Santa Monica each year. "The Descendants" star Shailene was no exception, hitting the red carpet in black jeans and a sparkly floral top paired with a pair of sky high gold Christian Louboutins. But Woodley decided to get even more casual when it came time to give interviews, handing her pumps to her publicist and going barefoot.
The star, who won for best supporting actress at the Independent Spirit Awards after many say she was snubbed in the Oscar nominations, has good reason to skip the shoes. She was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 15. When asked about her decision to go shoeless, Shailene had fun with the question and teased that she wanted to pitch a Hawaiian movie and hoped the barefoot look would be a great segue. The 20-year-old actress added that her feet hurt.
This is not the first time Shailene has opted for footwear that is healthier than heels. After the Golden Globes ceremony earlier this year Shailene traded her Tabitha Simmons stilettos for a pair of Vibram "Five Finger" shoes.
