Melissa McCarthy won laughs with her hilarious turn as Kristen Wiig's friend in the raunchy female comedy "Bridesmaids." Now the "Mike and Molly" actress is up for best supporting actor for her memorably comedic role as a bridesmaid.

But no joke, the star with the lovely brunette locks and sophisticated red-carpet style was once a cheerleader with an asymmetrical Kate Gosselin 'do. (Or should we say, don't.) Intrepid reporter and talk show host Anderson Cooper let loose an awesome yearbook pic of the actress from her Catholic school days.
In the segment, on his show "Anderson," Cooper asks her about her preppy-turned-Goth look. McCarthy admits she was a cheerleader and on the student council. Then she went into her punk phase. She admits that she was voted "most changed in four years" from her preppy to punk style.

She tells Cooper, "I was super preppy, and then by the end I had blue-black hair that I would shave in patches." And then, out of the mouth of McCarthy, a Goth fashion tip:
"I would wear turtlenecks for pants. It kind of made them harem pants: I would put my legs through the sleeves, and I would put safety pins and let it hang, and then I would fashion it into a waistband." She adds, "My mom loved it and so did the nuns."
