who wouldn't love that movie? It was great except when they killed off Goose...oh...break your heart.....I couldn't even count how many times I've seen that movie....it entertains us, not what is accurate or whatever as mentioned below...if you were entertained, then it was good.

For its GENRE it is one of the best, but Cruise did not make the movie the cinematography, the soundtrack and the supporting cast did. Actors like Tom Skerrit, Michael Ironside, Anthony Edwards and the bald aircraft carrier skipper make the movie so enjoyable.

I honestly cannot tell the real movie from the gay porn parody...except the gay porn version has better acting

Nothing against Cruise, but actually, James Garner showed us how to be a Maverick!

Cruise came 1st from a movie standpoint - so I have to give it to him. Garner was on the TV show and played on the movie after Top Gun.

I am sorry, but a movie that uses T-38 trainers as MiGs....fail. Boring then and still boring today...

One of the finest acting performances of our time, not since Shakespeare has there been more meaningful and dramatic prose. Obviously the film that defines us as a people, it was barely picked over Porky's 2.
