Weekend Picks: ‘The Grey,’ ‘Man on a Ledge’ and ‘One for the Money’

Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington and Katherine Heigl(Photo: Open Road Films, Summit Entertainment, Lionsgate Films)

Last Monday, "Underworld: Awakening" woke up to the news that it had won the weekend's box office. It's amazing what casting one of the best-looking women on the planet and dressing her in one of the tightest outfits imaginable can do for ticket sales. But will it be enough to fend off the hungry competition hitting theaters this weekend?

Three major releases are opening up to general release this Friday, and action remains the name of the game. Whether you choose a rom-com, a heist flick, or a survival tale, if you're going to take in one of this weekend's offerings, get comfortable on the edge of your seat. Check out the choices below, along with what kind of fans we think will enjoy each flick.

    The GreyThe Grey
Rated R for violence/disturbing content including bloody images, and for pervasive language.

    What's the Story?
After surviving a horrendous airplane crash, a group of Alaskan oil-refinery workers find themselves in the middle of frozen nowhere and are forced to trudge their way to civilization. Fortunately for them, the leader of their pack, Ottway (Liam Neeson), is one tough mother. Unfortunately, standing between them and survival is a vast expanse of glacial wilderness and a bloodthirsty pack of big, bad wolves.

    Who Will Dig It?
Rabid dog lovers, Boy Scouts, tough guys, and existentialists should howl about this genre-jumping thriller/horror/survival tale.

Man on a LedgeMan on a Ledge
Rated PG-13 for violence and brief strong language.

    What's the Story?
Ex-cop and escaped convict Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) goes out on a ledge to prove he's been framed for stealing a $40 million diamond. What seems like a simple tale of talking Nick down turns out to be a conspiracy thriller with more plot twists than a Bavarian pretzel, leaving Nick's fate way up in the air.

    Who Will Dig It?
Revenge seekers looking to stick it to the 1 percent, heist-flick junkies, conspiracy theorists, and tightrope walkers should take the leap and check it out.

One for the MoneyOne for the Money
Rated PG-13 for violence, sexual references, language, some drug material, and partial nudity.

    What's the Story?
Recently divorced and unemployed, Stephanie Plum (Katherine Heigl) needs a job. As everyone in Jersey knows, it's good to have family, which is how Stephanie lands a gig as a bounty hunter for a bail-bond company. When Stephanie tries to bring in her ex-high school crush, Joe Morelli (Jason O'Mara), she has to use all her Jersey sass to learn the job, wrangle in the bad guys, and keep her meddling family from driving her crazy.

    Who Will Dig It?
Fans of the best-selling Janet Evanovich mystery series, dysfunctional-family funsters, rom-com dons, Jersey Shore goers, and armchair sleuths shouldn't fuhgeddabout this one.

I don't know who you wolves are. I don't know what you wolves want. If you are looking for food, I can tell you I don't have any. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for animals like you. If you let me and my friends go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

...Actually he was a warrior in Excalibur, fought against the Krull, got his skin burned in a lab accident, saved the jews from Ralph Fiennes, trained Obi-Wan Kenobi, was a professor, a captain, was a priest, died in Jerusalem but reincarnated as a League of Shadows leader who would later train Batman but to his own demise lose his life again, reincarnate as a Lion who creates Narnia, took the form of an American bodyguard who would kick the living #@!% out of the French in order to find his daughter, cryogenically freezes himself to wake up hundreds of years later in the apocalyptic wasteland where he tries to save the world once again from fallout mutants and corrupt government goons, then gets gassed to death and comes back alive as Aslan to aid Caspian in his war, beats up some Irish dude and went on national television for it, had his wife cheat on him then brought back some weird girl to life, decided to shape-shift into a god who would later shape-shift into a swan who seduced a Greek chick, led the A-Team and always conveniently came up with a plan because he’s Zeus in disguise, he also had a career in breaking out of jails and also mentoring Russell Crowe in doing the same, he turned up as a Lion again and helped the son of Rambow find his balls and manners, but lost his memory in a car crash then stopped a terrorist attack after finding out he was a trained assassin, went on a looong vacation for all the good deeds he’s done and countless times he’s saved the world, until WOLVES start ruining his camping trip… he teaches nature a lesson, returns to Greece as Zeus again to fight more titans since he’s so pumped on adrenaline, commands his own battle fleet in fighting off an alien invasion; which is the equivalent of golf to him, loses his daughter again in another country, and will return again as the infamous Lion shortly… I also hear he has some Muslims to hide as well.

You DO now he'll be back once again as Zeus in 'Wrath of the Titans'? He's just an awesome actor.
