The pop star and current "American Idol" judge will soon be dishing out advice on the affairs of the heart in "The Other Woman," the new romantic comedy starring Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The film is set to be directed by Nick Cassavetes, who knows a thing or two about troubled romance after calling the shots on all the crying and kissing in "The Notebook."
"The Other Woman" follows a lawyer (Diaz) who realizes that she's in fact "the other woman" in an affair with a married man ("Game of Thrones" star Coster-Waldau). She teams up with the guy's wife (Mann) and other mistress (Upton) to implement an elaborate revenge scheme, all designed to encourage the attached males in the audience to keep it in their pants.
Minaj will be playing Diaz's outspoken thrice-married law firm assistant who provides sage advice (and probably comic relief). The film marks her live-action film debut following her voice work as Steffie the mammoth in last year's "Ice Age: Continental Drift."
Nicki Minaj has taken the hip-hop world by storm the past few years with her fast-paced vocal stylings, alter egos and accents and, of course, her rather outlandish costumes and wigs. Her debut album, "Pink Friday" (2010), introduced the single "Super Bass" to the world and was certified Platinum a month after its release. Minaj's second album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" (2012), sold one million copies worldwide and its lead single, "Starships," became her highest-peaking single on the Billboard Hot 100. In April 2013, she became the most-charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with 54 appearances; indeed, the New York Times has suggested that she might be "the most influential female rapper of all time."
"The Other Woman" is set to shoot in New York in late spring/early summer with a look toward a theatrical release sometime in 2014.
