    Meryl Streep Loses Shoe Onstage

Photo: Eamonn McCormack/WireImageMeryl Streep is a world-class actress, and that was on full display Sunday at the BAFTAs -- the British version of the Oscars. But getting to the stage to collect her best-actress award for "The Iron Lady" proved to be a misstep, literally.

As she strode to the stage, the 62-year-old lost her shoe. Luckily, Colin Firth, who presented the category, was onstage and at the ready to rescue the star.

The white knight rushed in, picked up the wayward pump, and presented it to the actress. The Oscar winners then embraced, and Streep said, "Thank you so much! That couldn't have gone worse!"

Yes! I will admit I was a little jealous of Meryl Streep last night and I still refer to Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!

If I saw Colin Firth coming my way I might think about losing more than my shoe!

More than your shoe, eh....? Do I detect a somewhat voluntary loss of undergarments....or was you thinkins of that?

Last time, she forgot her glasses and couldn't read her speech. Poor woman. She is so incredibly wonderful that none of this stuff matters.

Meryl Streep says she thought it couldn't have gone any worse? She loses her shoe on stage accepting an award and Colin Firth runs to her rescue and places the shoe back on her foot like Cinderella? Uhm Meryl I think it could have gone a lot worse!

That's exactly what I was thinking! Who doesn't want to be Cinderella?

The Prince retrieved Cinderella's shoe. How beautiful she looked, I was so pleased, as she has not looked good at most Red Carpets in America, being a Brit, I was happy to see how glamorous she was. She looked MAARRVELOUS!! She deserved the BAFA. The MC Stephen called her "Lady Meryl Thatcher".

I was thinking Cinderella also. Cute.

Meryl, What a class act !

She was truly amazing as Thatcher, but then she's proven herself to be astonishingly able to "be" a wide range of characters. Rare talent, that.

Meryl is a class act. Not a diva. Great sense of humor, even about herself. One of the best!

More great news from Yahoo!! How can we all handle this PLUS Miley's new haircut?

Joan Rivers, Dolly Parton, Meg Ryan are fooling themselves if they think they look better with those facelifts (fish lips and squinty eyes). Meryl Streep can show them what a classy lady looks like without resorting to surgery and botox.
