Nothing inspires major movies studios to put their best footage forward from highly-anticipated movies like CinemaCon, the annual gathering of the National Association of Theater Owners and a can’t-miss opportunity for studios to impress the people who decide to show their films. This year’s convention dazzled attendees with new trailers and footage from some of the most eagerly-anticipated new films, complete with appearances by the high profile stars.
Emerging power player Lionsgate was one such studio that packed a lot of impressive punches with an action-heavy presentation that included the first look at the long-awaited big screen adaptation of sci-fi adventure “Ender’s Game.” The story, based on Orson Scott Card’s beloved novel, is set in the future where the human race is bracing itself for an attack by an aliens. As part of their preparation they recruit and train the most promising young soldiers in the art of war at an elite training center known as Battle School.
Judging by the reactions from those who saw the trailer, the footage was well-received for the way that it teased the plot, introduced its stars Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Asa Butterfield and Hailee Stanfield and unveiled a few fan favorite elements like the Battle Room, a glimpse of which was unveiled in the first poster, as well as a hint at a climactic battle.
Ford himself was on hand to help drive home the film’s selling points and promised audiences an emotional as well as visual experience. “I was attracted to it not just for the scale of it and the power of it visually, but there’s a great human story here,” he said.
For those dying to get a glimpse of the footage themselves, the trailer will make its theatrical debut in front of “Star Trek Into Darkness” beginning May 17.
